Glen Gold is a Sydney-based songwriter making cinematic, lyric-forward alt/art-rock-songs
built from scenes, sharp imagery and a dark melodic edge, with occasional blues/jazz undertones.
Born in Cape Town and now living in Australia, he started writing more than 30 years ago,
played in bands in his early twenties, and stayed close to songwriting even while building a
practical life around it. His path wasn't linear. With an early background in drama and performance,
he later moved into information technology as his day job, fitting music around work, family
and the realities of paying bills.
In recent years, a turning point arrived with the passing of his mother - an experience
that sharpened the need to articulate what had been accumulating for decades.
Late for May is the result: a debut album that moves between satirical bite ("I Just Wanna Be Liked By You"),
surreal tenderness ("Even Angels Get The Blues"), and art-rock introspection ("Time"), with an adaptation
of Byron's “When We Two Parted” anchoring the record's emotional restraint.
The album was produced and mixed with London-based producer/mixer Gavin Goldberg-also a long-time friend
and creative partner-who also performs on the record. Much of Late for May was built “in the box” between
Australia and the UK, with Glen and Gavin writing, recording and shaping songs across distance. The sessions
feature Patrick Murdoch (guitar; The Fairground Boys), Geoff Holroyde (drums/percussion; credits include
Simple Minds and Robbie Williams) and Sam Swallow (piano; credits include Simply Red and Gilbert O'Sullivan).
In 2024/2025, Glen was shortlisted across seven songs in the Australian Songwriting Contest, with some
appearing on Late for May and other earmarked as future singles and a follow-up release.
